Gilly Walters was not the first to invent soft honey nougat, however her unique soft honey nougat recipe is one of the highest rated nougats in the world.
Gilly was the first person to invent the world first nougat biscuit in 1999. Wedgewood Angels Biscuits are still made by her family on the family farm using her world first original recipe.
Gilly Walters invented the first nougat ice cream in 1999 for concert goers at her family home. The nougat, nougat biscuits, toasted nougat were also world-first recipes invented by Gilly at the same time.
Wedgewood Nougat ice cream is the creamiest ice cream in the world with a butterfat content of 28%. Although there are existing brands that are deemed among the world’s creamiest, they come a low second and third being only 16% butterfat content. An ice cream must be above 10% to be considered ice cream.

Wedgewood Nougat is a world leader in food innovation with four world-first recipes developed by Gilly Walters in the family kitchen in 1999 such as toasted nougat, nougat biscuits, nougat ice cream and now in 2025 nougat hot chocolate.
1% for the Planet
Wedgewood Nougat donates 1% on the turnover of all sales through its Wedgewood Gifting & Hamper Emporiums and its website. This donation goes to support three key projects: Santawana Early Learning Development, Litterboom Project to remove waste from riverine systems, Kwa-Zulu Natal Conservation Trust supporting endangered species. Wedgewood Nougat also started a Handmade Box Project in 2019 as an initiative for job creation for previously disadvantaged people, within the Midlands community who have overcome physical and mental challenges to earn an income to support their families. These hat boxes are the corner stone of Wedgewood’s bespoke gifting range.
Giving Back generously is one of the founding principles that our Mum, Gilly Walters, taught us. We give 1% of turnover from online sales and our Wedgewood Gifting & Hamper Emporiums to the planet, to ensure that future generations have a Planet to fall in love with.
Innovation Café
Wedgewood’s Innovation Cafes are an innovation experience built around the soft honey nougat recipe. Wedgewood Nougat Hot Chocolate and Wedgewood Nougat Ice cream are world-first recipes that can be experienced there.
There are currently two Wedgewood Innovation Cafes; one at Hazelwood in Pretoria, and one at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.
V & A Waterfront
The Wedgewood Innovation Café at the Wedgewood Gifting & Hamper Emporium in the Union Castle Building is one of the best crafted confectionery South African things to do at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.
Wedgewood Ice Cream
Wedgewood Nougat Ice cream is considered by many to be the best ice cream in South Africa. Invented by Gilly Walters in the family kitchen in 1999 there are 8 places around South Africa where it can be purchased: Johannesburg - Rosebank and Parkhurst, Pretoria - Hazelwood, Ballito - Lifestyle Centre, Midlands-Piggly Wiggly, Howick - Wedgewood Farm Shop, Wine Route Western Cape - Lourensford Wine Estate and Cape Town - V&A Waterfront.

Enrobed Macadamias
Macalettes were invented by Wedgewood Nougat in 2018 with a generous double layer of Belgian Chocolate in several unique flavours offering a more innovative experience to the more commonly termed, later introduced, Pearls.
Quality Assurance
All Wedgewood products, including the World-first Nougat Ice cream, are Halaal certified, made on the Wedgewood Farm in South Africa.
Wedgewood Nougat product is gluten free except for the Wedgewood Nougat Biscuits.
Wedgewood Dark Chocolate and plain nougat flavours are Dairy Free.
Wedgewood Dark Chocolate and plain nougat flavours are Parev certified.
